The Title "DARUMA" as for all genereight products is defined through 3 factors. The visual or pictorial reference, the spirit & humor. A bridge of the east and the west, the culture. And finally a reference to the initial commissioner, the person.

Daruma dolls, in Japan are round toy/objects representing the founder of Zen Buddhism that sat nine years meditating, achieving his fuller appearance and, of course, enlightenment. Symbolically, the Daruma doll is a talisman for perseverance and good fortune and typically comes with two blank eyes where one making a wish, fills one eye and upon the realization of the wish in turn completes the second.

The stool, historically one of the earliest form of seating furniture, is a chair with no back or arms, consequently a piece with no front, side or back. Conceived as an object that would nest in various interiors, the necessity of maintaining a visually interest from all sides was imperative. Constructed seamlessly with three overlapping curves, DARUMA delivers an ethereal continuous loop much like a three dimension Celtic knot. Notably, the process of designing DARUMA used no computer aided technologies. This was done consciously to allow the investigation and emphasis of the character and qualities of bamboo, thus achieving the sinuous continuity.

The seat is hand woven in double strand rattan from three directions to deliver sturdiness, comfort and texture.

Bamboo known for its fast growth cycle and remarkable strength addresses today’s socio-ecological needs.

Finished with natural oils and wax bringing out the beauty of the wood grain, DARUMA is available in two tones, Natural or Medium.
